BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Police Chief Murphy Paul announced his resignation from the department in July, but he agreed to stay in his role until Nov. 3 to give Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome time to find his replacement. With that deadline approaching, Paul said Wednesday he would stay on as chief until a replacement is named. Twenty candidates for the role are currently being considered, all of whom are being evaluated by Broome's police chief search committee. The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control had been scheduled to publish a registry of authorized products, known as the V.A.P.E. Directory, by Nov. 1 after a new law required the state to create a list of vape products approved for sale in Louisiana. But the Louisiana Convenience and Vape Store Association filed a petition Tuesday for a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction of the law, which bans retailers from selling vape products not listed on the registry. The state now is holding off on publicizing the registry in light of the lawsuit.
