BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul says looming criminal charges against four police officers stem from a 2020 incident in which officers in the now-disbanded Street Crimes Unit attempted to dispose of video evidence after someone in custody was unlawfully struck and then had a Taser used on them. During a press conference Friday, Paul and Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome continued to emphasize the administration's commitment to transparency amid internal and federal investigations into the department. Also Friday, Hillar Moore, Baton Rouge’s District Attorney, said the officers’ arrests could potentially impact “several hundred” criminal cases, explaining that they call into question the credibility of the officers' testimonies.
