This Michigan Airbnb is one of the "most wishlisted" by vacationers
|
From Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel to picturesque campsites around the state, Michigan is home to plenty of iconic places to stay for vacation. One Northern Michigan Airbnb was just named as one of the "most wishlisted" spots by travelers. The Round Haven has earned 5 stars from its more than 200 reviews, earning the Airbnb moniker “Guest Favorite.” Located in the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes, this one bedroom stay features floor to ceiling windows, a 300-foot walk to Big Glen Lake, and more. Speaking of scenic spots to stay, the West Bay Wanderlust vacation rental on the shore of Grand Traverse Bay West Arm is home to two eagles: Harry and Harriet. |

Police can’t search cars solely because they smell marijuana, Michigan’s top court says |
Highest court: The odor of marijuana alone isn’t a sufficient reason for police to search a car without a warrant, the Michigan Supreme Court said Wednesday. In a 5-1 opinion, the court threw out gun charges against a man whose car was searched in Detroit in 2020. Details: “The smell of marijuana might just as likely indicate that the person is in possession of a legal amount of marijuana, recently used marijuana legally, or was simply in the presence of someone else who used marijuana,” said Justice Megan Cavanagh, writing for the majority. In health: Failing to disclose use of cannabis or psychedelic mushrooms to your doctors before undergoing a medical procedure could have consequences. These drugs can affect how much anesthesia a patient needs, increase their risk of heart or respiratory issues, nausea and vomiting during surgery, and affect post-surgery pain management, according to the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists. |

Michigan has 2 of the top 5 golf getaway spots, USA Today readers say |
Michigan Golf Getaways: Boyne Golf has been voted the No. 1 golf destination in the U.S. according to USA Today's 10BEST list, with its Highlands resort also ranking No. 2 in the resort category. Michigan's Upper Peninsula secured the fifth spot on the national list, known for its rugged forests and lakeside views. Brandon Champion reports that Boyne now encompasses 11 courses across three resort properties, including the scenic Bay Harbor Golf Club built on a former limestone quarry. Rare Babe Ruth signed baseball: A devoted Detroit Tigers fan's 15-year quest to acquire a 1933 baseball signed by Babe Ruth involved eBay negotiations, a friend posing as a buyer, and lost authentication paperwork. Steve Nagengast's collection of over 1,200 baseball memorabilia items, including this rare ball, will be displayed at the Grand Rapids Public Museum starting April 4, reports Skyla Jewell-Hammie. Lions jersey number changes: Running back Jahmyr Gibbs will switch to No. 0, while receiver Jameson Williams returns to his Alabama college number (No. 1) and rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold takes No. 6 reports Benjamin Raven. The changes come with a cost—NFL rules require players to buy out existing inventory of their outdated jerseys. Detroit announced 14 total jersey number updates following the NFL's 2021 expansion of number flexibility for different positions. |

Michigan woman faked power of attorney to pull life support of elderly man, deputies say |
A Michigan woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly obtained a fraudulent power of attorney over an elderly man and told a hospital to pull his life support. Linda Polk, 52, of Clinton Township was arraigned for first-degree, premeditated murder, vulnerable adult abuse and fraud in Macomb County. She had previously been charged in January with identify theft, possession of a financial transaction device and illegal sale or use of a credit card. A senior dog found in an Ann Arbor dumpster has been euthanized after animal shelter staff discovered ongoing medical issues. Although staff at the Humane Society of Huron Valley were hopeful a tumor on the dog’s left side was benign or treatable, it ultimately showed to be “beyond what we could heal or even make comfortable,” staff said in a release on social media. Drowning victim found: Divers from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office recovered a drowning victim from the Paw Paw River on April 3. The victim, a 48-year-old Illinois man, was pronounced dead at the scene. |
