BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer John Brown Sr., 79, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound shortly before 10 a.m. Sept. 9 inside the Leonidas Drive home he shared with his youngest son. Douglas Brown has now been arrested and booked on a count of second-degree murder in his father's slaying. Arrest documents for the 30-year-old say security camera footage from the home's carport places him at the residence during the time police believe the shooting occurred. Several local organizations are holding voter registration events throughout the community this weekend in advance of National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 19. "Voting provides each of us a voice in the community," said Ernise Singleton, president of the Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae Chapter. "(Who people vote for) affects everything from the lighting of roads and how schools are funded, to greater community issues across the state. Each person needs to make their voice heard."
