Good evening. Today was the day when everybody was given the green flag to get back in the offices and workplaces without restriction. Some did so reluctantly, some couldn’t wait, and for many it will be a gradual process with more flexibility than was ever offered previously. The lifting of Plan B measures for Omicron were pretty last minute - yet it seemed in some cities at least many did return - while in others workers were less keen. An increase in road congestion was recorded in London and Manchester this morning while demand for public transport in the capital was also up. But some cities saw a reduction or no significant change in traffic. There are plenty of factors to impact this - not least the reduced services offered by many public transport operators due to staff shortages, for example. But there is also the mixed picture of Covid nationally - it may be (hopefully) on the retreat but infection rates in the community largely remain pretty high. Many consider the lifting of some measures as political, rather than practical measures. There are certainly plenty of opinions, no shortage there. But the thing most agree on; an influx of workers with money to spend is a lifeline for the high street.
