#plant2022: Slowest Start in Years

Busch Light and John Deere are teaming up for a special "For the Farmers" beer can. The beer will be sold across the Midwest from May 16 to July 3, and $1 from each sale will be donated to Farm Rescue.

Summer-like temperatures and strong winds are drying out fields across the Midwest, as many farmers try to catch up this week. The latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows planting is off to the slowest start in nine years with only 22% of the corn crop planted as of May 8.

Women in agriculture lag their male counterparts in receiving recognition of their work. Out of 50 World Food Prize laureates, only nine have been women. However, the 2022 recipient of the World Food Prize is Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, a climatologist who works as a senior research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
