Thirty years ago today, on May 22, 1993, California farmers, Bay Area chefs, and neighbors came together to start the first weekly Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, creating a shared public space for San Franciscans to gather, learn, and build community through fresh, local food. The seeds of that vision continue to grow and thrive to this dayâa testament to dedicated community members like you.
Many of you have been shopping at the farmers market for years and even decades, and have demonstrated your commitment to local farmers and food education by supporting Foodwise in deeper ways.
âThe last 13 years of my life I have been involved with Foodwise in some capacity,â shares Kory Cogdill, shown above with his partner, Korey, who both donate monthly as Foodwise Sustainers. âI started coming to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market very early on Thursday mornings back in 2010 as a vendor for Tacolicious. I fell in love with the market and was quickly captured by all the work they do in our community, from providing urban dwellers with passionate and friendly farmers to supporting our students with agricultural educationâŠI choose to help sustain Foodwise because they sustain our community.â
