CHECKED OUT: Conflicting accounts have emerged of the shooting death of an Ace Hotel parking valet by a visitor to the New Orleans hotel. Purported social media influencer Lavanzel Kerr, 37, says he was in his convertible with the top down when Alton Williams, 21, pistol-whipped him, demanded $100 and threatened to shoot him, so he shot the valet. Williams family says “Alton was … known by his friends, family and coworkers for being easygoing, extremely caring and a hard worker. He was not an aggressive person. “We believe that … an investigation will show that Alton’s death is the result of a serious crime.”
CLOCKED OUT: One of the highest-paid officers on the New Orleans police payroll, Sgt. Todd Morrell, who raked in $192,900 last year, in part from questionable private security work while he was supposed to be on public duty, has retired.
SPACED OUT: A Covington High School student who is accused of beating up a 64-year-old teacher, in an attack that police said may have been inspired by a TikTok social media challenge, has entered a plea in court: not guilty by reason of insanity.
