Taking place at the Volkshaus Basel, the fair runs from 14 – 18 June 2017, coinciding with Art Basel. This year, a contingent of 34 galleries, both young and more established, present works by artists from 15 countries in three sections: the main section, tape/basel and the not-for-profit section. photo basel brings together galleries from around the world, fostering a dialogue between members of the photographic and broader art world communities. A strong group of galleries from Europe will be joined by exhibitors from China, Georgia, Japan, Peru, Mexico, Argentina and the USA. Newcomers to the fair include Catharine Clark (USA), Kana Kawanashi (Japan), Mariane Ibrahim Gallery (USA), and Galerie Springer (Germany). Returning galleries include Esther Woerdehoff (France), Flatland (Netherlands), Dix9 (France), Grundemark Nilsson (Germany/Sweden), Bildhalle (Switzerland), and Camara Oscura (Spain). This year, the moving image is the focus at tape/basel, the newly created sector for video art. Canadian-Swiss Curator, Chantal Molleur, has selected nine recent works that are concerned with issues related to performance, 3D animation, animated collage and animated photomontage. The most prominent work is possibly, “The Earth Who Fell to Man” by Venice Biennale 2017 artist Mika Taanila. The not-for-profit section showcases nominees from the vfg Nachwuchsförderpreis (Young Artist’s Prize for Photography), a highly respected annual award that is produced by vfg (association of creative photographers), Switzerland. The program is designed to showcase new talent within Switzerland. Another representative of the not-for-profit sector is the School of Arts and Design of Basel (HGK/FHNW). Under the leadership of Chus Martinez (Director of the Arts Department), emerging artist Anastasia Chaguidouline, presents her solo show, which premieres a series of photographs that have been inspired by Nan Goldin. | | | | | | © photo basel | | | | Exhibitor List 2017 AB43 Contemporary - Zürich, Switzerland ALMANAQUE - Mexico City, México Galerie Springer - Berlin, Germany Mariane Ibrahim Gallery - Seattle, USA Catharine Clark Gallery - San Francisco, USA Photon - Ljubljana, Slovenia Flatland - Amsterdam, Netherlands Esther Woerdehoff - Paris, France Galleria l'Affiche - Milano, Italy Kopeikin Gallery - Los Angeles, USA Twin Gallery - Madrid, Spain Kana Kawanishi - Tokyo, Japan La Galerie Paris 1839 - Hong Kong, China Susanne Albrecht - Berlin, Germany Fabian & Claude Walter Galerie - Zürich, Switzerland Camara Oscura - Madrid, Spain Dix9 - Hélène Lacharmoise - Paris, France Grundemark Nilsson Gallery - Berlin & Stockholm Galerie Catherine et André Hug - Paris, France Baudoin Lebon - Paris, France widmertheodoridis - Eschlikon, Switzerland Galerija Fotografija - Ljubljana, Slovenia Raffaella De Chirico - Torino, Italy Podbielski Contemporary - Berlin, Germany Kahmann Gallery - Amsterdam, Netherlands Bildhalle - Zürich, Switzerland Photographica Fine Art - Lugano, Switzerland mc2 Gallery - Milano, Italy Monika Wertheimer - Oberwil/Basel, Switzerland Carlos Caamaño Proyecto Fotográfico - Lima, Peru School Gallery / Olivier Castaing - Paris, France Éditions Xavier Barral - Publisher vfg Nachwuchsförderpreis FHNW / Institut für Kunst - Basel, Switzerland Erti Gallery - Tbilisi/Tiflis, Georgia ungallery - Buenos Aires, Argentina VisionQuesT 4rosso - Genova, Italy | | | | | | © photo basel | | | | unsubscribe here Newsletter was sent to [email protected] © 7 Jun 2017 photography-now.com Ziegelstr. 29 .
