I work really hard to keep work from taking over my life. But when you work hard to blend life and work (like when you want to work from home), sometimes you need to step back a bit and separate them a little, or at least remember to have some fun in both. 1 - Take a long weekend, or skip out early. As a freelancer or entrepreneur, it sometimes takes a lot of convincing to talk yourself into taking a long weekend. But, you have to give yourself permission to enjoy your life, and it will make the days after returning to work much more productive. 2 - Enjoy your lunch breaks. Set a timer and take a good lunch break. Be sure to walk away from your desk to sit and eat elsewhere. Take deep breaths, chew your food slowly, and enjoy the break. 3 - Remember to enjoy your work. As a business owner, we all experience that serious gotta-get-stuff-done-no-matter-what feeling. Sometimes it makes us forget to let loose and just enjoy what we're doing. Find ways to bring some fun back into your to-do list, even if it's just turning on some music or celebrating after you check off every 5 tasks. Do what you have to do to have some fun. You don't need permission to do any of these things, you're the boss. But this is a reminder, so get at it. |
