![]() There were (and are) many, many downsides of the pandemic and lockdown. But one silver lining is that some trans and non-binary folks found lockdown a welcoming place to come out. “The pandemic may have made [people] realize that they no longer wanted to live in a way in which they couldn’t be their truest or most authentic selves anymore,” Kevin Nadal, a professor of psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center, told HuffPost. That’s a benefit of all that alone time: the opportunity to reevaluate what’s important in life.
That said, coming out during the pandemic — or anytime — isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Housing insecurity and job losses have hit the trans community particularly hard, and medical procedures have had to be postponed. But reading these coming out stories is a bright spot during a dark time.
