BY CHRISTIAN CLARK | Staff writer The New Orleans Pelicans' East Coast road trip was a homecoming for Brooklyn native Jose Alvarado. Sandwiched around a game against the Boston Celtics, the Pelicans faced the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks. Alvarado had plenty of friends and family members at both games — so many that he didn't have enough tickets to give out to everyone in his group. Two of Alvarado's teammates, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram, stepped up to make sure everyone in Alvarado's group could see him play for free. In Brooklyn, Hart paid for a handful of tickets that went directly to Alvarado's party. A few nights later at Madison Square Garden, Ingram did the same. “I can’t even explain how I felt when he said that," Alvarado said. "I was a little hesitant. But he (Hart) was like, ‘Man, I got you.’ For him and B.I. to do that, I appreciate that. They are my brothers.” Alvarado, a rookie guard on a two-way contract, had a career night at Madison Square Garden. He had 13 points, four assists and four steals off the bench, helping spark his team to a badly needed win. Afterward, Alvarado seemed incredulous that it had worked out this way — him, as an NBA player in Madison Square Garden, having a career night in front of those with whom he is closest to. "I'm at the Garden, I won, and I'm doing the interview with y'all. And my people are right there... you can't make that up." Incredible moment. -- Christian |
