Peak of Flight Newsletter #519:

How to Pick the Right Screw-on Retainer

Peak-of-Flight Newsletter Are you wondering how to pick a motor retainer for your rocket? That is what we’ll cover in this article. This is a common question that we get at Apogee, and it is our hope that with the information given here, you’ll be able to cut us out of the loop when picking a retainer for your rocket.

Included in this newsletter article is our latest free rocket plan, the Solar Grapple!

The Solar Grapple has a few very interesting features. The swept-back fins that are pieced together from two pieces of balsa in order to prevent snapping off as well as the simulated engine nozzle gives this build an interesting and wholly unique appearance. It is a simple build, so it is a great first-time plan for someone new to rocketry.

Read the rest of this week's article, either on a downloadable PDF for printing out, or on our website (great for viewing on your phone)!

Semroc Stellar Arrow

Semroc Stellar Arrow

The Stellar Arrow is a rocket kit from Semroc that is designed to look and feel like an arrow shot from a bow. The fins are pre-slotted, giving them an almost feather like quality and carry a lot of the weight of the design visually while the boatcone retainer and black band under the nose cone fill out some of the details.

Sanding Tee

Apogee Sanding Tee

The Apogee Sanding Tee is more than just a special aluminum sanding block. It has several features that create a lot of versatility that will help you make rockets quicker, and that look and perform better. Use it to sand fins flat, to stack-sand the edges to make them uniform size, and to round off the leading and trailing edgs. Unlike other sanding blocks, there is a special radius edge to help you sand hard-to-reach fin fillets on really long fins. And as a added bonus, you can use the angle to draw lines down the tube for making fin locations. If you're like us, this will be one of your favorite and most-used tools in your workshop.

Customer Comments

This is such a great company. I love the online chat feature while you're shopping. It's invaluable for those new to rocketry. I've had some issues with my motor orders because I wasn't familiar with NAR and federal rules and regulations but the customer support folks walked me through things and modified my order as appropriate. When I call I always talk to someone knowledgeable and friendly. I really like doing business with Apogee.

I need help with generating the bi-weekly newsletter articles since it takes a lot of effort to put them together. And I'm willing to pay big bucks for your help.

So ask yourself, are you looking to earn some extra money?

I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles.

Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby.

If you're interested in writing, see the guidelines on our site.
