Amazon pulls the pin on Australian 'Amazon Pharmacy' trademark application.
Global online retail giant, Amazon, has withdrawn its IP Right to trademark Amazon Pharmacy in Australia.Â
The company submitted a withdrawal request to IP Australia yesterday, almost 18 months after submitting the trademark application (PD 15 January 2020).
Amazon had sought to trademark the Amazon Pharmacy brand to cover a range of goods and services, including âpharmacy services... health care services, and preparation of prescriptions in pharmaciesâ.Â
The filing also requested approval for the trademark to cover âpharmacy packaging services that align, sorts and packages a patientâs medication by date and time into individual packetsâ, which would have facilitated a model in line with Amazonâs US PillPack pharmacy business.Â
However, the application was opposed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, prompting a 15-month dispute, which culminated in Amazonâs decision to withdraw its trademark request.Â
