County Council Approves Subdivision Staging Policy on November 15
The Montgomery County Planning Department secured approval of the 2016 Subdivision Staging Policy (formerly called the Growth Policy) from the Montgomery County Council on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. The intent of the Subdivision Staging Policy (SSP) is to ensure public facilities, particularly schools and transportation facilities, are adequate to accommodate new development.
Before the County Council's review, the Montgomery County Planning Board held public hearings and work sessions to revise the quadrennial policy, and voted in July to approve and transmit the draft of the Subdivision Staging Policy to the County Council. The Council held its own work sessions and public hearing in the fall, before voting to adopt the revised policy in November. Developed by the Planning Department in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, the updated policy will help guide growth in the county for the next four years. County Council Votes to Approve Subdivision Regulations Revision
The Montgomery County Planning Department secured the County Council's approval of the comprehensive revision to Chapter 50, the Subdivision Regulations, of the Montgomery County Code on Tuesday, November 15. These regulations guide the transfer and subdivision of land within the county, and were updated by Planning Department staff in collaboration with other county agencies, local legal firms and community members.
The update was not intended to change the basic methods by which land is subdivided. Rather, the new regulations provide a more organized, user-friendly document and simplify the process for certain types of subdivision plans, which will no longer have to be presented to the Planning Board. In addition, review times for subdivision applications will conform to a time frame of 120 days for development review and approval that is significantly shorter than the typical process in the past. A 90-day time limit has been adopted for the review of a record plat application. Learn more here. |
