Project manager Ching-Feng Chen, a landscape architect with the Montgomery County Department of Parks, will explain the design of the Little Bennett Regional Park area. The four-acre space welcomes visitors with picnic tables, retaining walls made of salvaged materials, environmental art made of recycled bamboo and a meadow restoration.
Architect Brian Martin of SmithGroupJJR will discuss the design of the Holy Cross Hospital expansion. The awards jury praised this center of healing for its architectural form, orchestrated entrance procession, organization of rooms and illuminated corner tower. They admired its "grace and beauty" and how it provides a new landmark for travelers on the Capital Beltway.

Heard of the High Line? D.C. is planning its own elevated park - the 11th Street Bridge Park. Come learn all about it during the third session of the Parks (free and open to the public) Speaker Series on March 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Montgomery Regional Office Building (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring). We'll also hear about efforts to restore the Anacostia Watershed. Complimentary lunch included!

Montgomery Parks is pleased to invite 3rd-5th grade students to participate in a video contest for a chance to host an Arbor Day Celebration at their school this April! In a short video, tell us how "Trees are Superheroes." Trees provide oxygen, wood and food. They filter pollutants from the air, provide shade and provide shelter to a variety of critters. That's why trees are super! Submissions are due March 29 and will be posted to the Montgomery Parks' YouTube Channel. The winning video will be displayed on Montgomery Parks' social media channels and website. |
