Community Invited to Attend a Listening Session About a New State Development Plan at Planning Department on March 12 The Montgomery County Planning Department is hosting the public event, A Better Maryland: Community Listening Session Agenda, on Monday, March 12, 2018. The session will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Department's headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). The purpose of the session is for state officials to hear from county residents about how best to update Maryland's overall development plan, called A Better Maryland, that is being created by the Maryland Department of Planning. This plan will establish Maryland's goals and objectives for growing responsibly, protecting our resources, supporting existing communities and creating quality places. Read more |
Community Invited to Presentation by Winners of the Planning Department's 2017 Design Excellence Awards on March 17 at the Silver Spring Library The Montgomery County Planning Department is hosting a presentation by the winners of its third annual Design Excellence Awards at the Silver Spring Library (900 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) on Saturday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. The talk, titled Two Inspiring Designs: A Park and a Healing Institution, is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. The most recent Design Excellence Awards, selected by an independent jury and announced in October 2017, honor both buildings and landscapes in Montgomery County that are currently in use and less than 10 years old. The top honors went to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring and its new tower designed by the SmithGroupJJR of Washington, DC, and phase one of the day use area of Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg, owned and managed by the Montgomery County Department of Parks. At the March 17 event, project manager Ching-Feng Chen, a landscape architect with the Montgomery County Department of Parks, will explain the design of the Little Bennett Regional Park Day Use Area. Join Montgomery Parks for Special Presentation on the 11th Street Park Bridge! Heard of the High Line? D.C. is planning its own elevated park - the 11th Street Park Bridge. 2018 Montgomery Parks Arbor Day Video Contest Montgomery Parks is pleased to invite 3rd-5th grade students to participate in a video contest for a chance to host an Arbor Day Celebration at their school this April! In a short video, tell us how "Trees are Superheroes." Trees provide oxygen, wood and food. They filter pollutants from the air, provide shade and provide shelter to a variety of critters. That's why trees are super! Submissions will be posted to the Montgomery Parks' YouTube Channel and the winning video will be displayed on Montgomery Parks' social media channels and website. Montgomery Parks is currently welcoming public commentary on ideas to improve Archery Range at South Germantown Recreational Park. Input can be submitted online at the Open Town Hall forum. |
Accessibility Improvements Continue Accessibility Improvement work is scheduled at Black Hill Regional Park Boat House. Other access improvement projects include the Archery Range at Rock Creek Regional Park and the Archery Range at South Germantown Recreational Park. Playground Updates Playgrounds at South Gunner's Branch Local Park, John Haines Neighborhood Park, and Wheaton-Claridge Local Park are closed as part of the Playground Renovation Program. Work is scheduled is to continue through the Winter and early Spring 2018. |
