| Parents say daughter denied kidney transplant because she didn't get COVID-19 shot | Curated for you byCP Editors | Good afternoon! It's Tuesday, December 13, and today's headlines include parents who say their daughter was denied a kidney transplant because she didn't get the COVID-19 shot, details on the doctor who helped "bring to life" an American Girl book that promotes gender transition to children, a detransitioning Navy SEAL who says transitioning ruined his life, and details on the Respect for Marriage Act, which is expected to be signed by President Joe Biden on Tuesday. | The parents of a 14-year-old girl who suffers from a rare degenerative kidney condition say Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., denied their daughter a life-saving kidney transplant because she didn't get the COVID-19 shot. The mother, Chrissy Hicks, shared a recording of a phone conversation she had with a Duke Health kidney specialist during which the medical professional indicates that the girl, Yulia Hicks, cannot be a transplant candidate while unvaccinated. "I can’t require you to do anything. I can recommend these things, but if you don’t follow our recommendations, then Yulia can’t be a transplant candidate here. … Being unvaccinated to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommended vaccinations based on her age is part of that," the specialist can be heard telling the mother. The Hicks say says that Yulia had COVID and recovered, and, therefore, has natural immunity. | "I said, ‘So basically you’re telling us if she does not get the vaccine, then she’s not getting a transplant,’” the mother told Fox News opinion host Tucker Carlson on Friday. “And (the hospital) said, ‘Yes, that is the one thing that is holding us up.'" The girl's father, Lee Hicks, says the family has been upfront about not being comfortable with the vaccine for the last two years, saying, "And so they knew all along that we were not comfortable with this. And it wasn’t a requirement. It was … a recommendation, according to (the doctors) at first—until the very end." Now, the family has retained a lawyer to fight a legal battle with Duke Hospital over the kidney transplant. Continue reading. | P.S. | | Doctor tied to American Girl book pushed puberty blockers, breast binding for minors | The American Girl book A Smart Girl's Guide: Body Image has sparked controversy over advocating for the use of experimental puberty-blocking drugs to give girls more time to think about their "gender identity." The book also appears to direct girls who question their gender to organizations that will help them transition if the adults in their lives do not support the decision. In a follow-up to her initial report on the book, CP op-ed contributor Anne Young notes that the book's author, Mel Hammond, recognizes Dr. Carly Guss on her website as a person who helped "bring this book to life." Guss, an adolescent medicine specialist at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, has promoted using breast binders and genital tucking. Guss has also advocated for puberty blockers for gender dysphoric children, stating that the drugs, in some cases, eliminate "the need for subsequent surgery." Such puberty blockers to delay puberty in children with gender dysphoria have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The American College of Pediatricians has warned that temporary use of puberty-blocking drugs has "been associated with and may be the cause of many serious permanent side effects including osteoporosis, mood disorders, seizures, cognitive impairment and, when combined with cross-sex hormones, sterility." In July, the FDA warned that gonadotropin-releasing hormone drugs can cause brain swelling and vision loss in children who take them. Beck, who served as a Navy SEAL for 20 years, explained in a recent podcast interview with conservative filmmaker Robby Starbuck that he wants to share his experience to help young people who may be considering transitioning. Beck described how it only took a one-hour visit with Veterans Affairs to be offered hormones for gender transition. "I walked into a psychologist's office, [and] in one day, I have a letter in my hand saying I was transgender. I was authorized for hormones. I was authorized all this other stuff ... I had so much going wrong in my system when I started taking those. Some of that was paid for by the VA, and I'm sorry to the American people that I did that," Beck stated. Beck also asserted that people should not believe his 2013 CNN appearance during which he told Anderson Cooper why he wanted to identify as a woman. "Everything you see on CNN with my face, do not even believe a word of it. Everything that happened to me for the last 10 years destroyed my life." | | Do you still expect Christmas surprises? | Pastor Dan Delzell discusses the meaning of Christmas and how accepting God's gift of a Savior brings joy to the soul. "How big of a deal is the birth of Christ? As Pastor David Jeremiah said: 'All the Christmas presents in the world are worth nothing without the presence of Christ.' And the only way to experience Christ’s presence is to receive Him as your Lord and Savior," Delzell writes. Brinton, who has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing a woman's designer luggage in Minnesota and has now been accused of stealing another woman's luggage in Las Vegas, is known for his appearance, which includes a shaved head, mustache, red lipstick and flashy women's clothing. Beyond this, however, Brinton is "a proud ‘pup handler,’ an identity ... that sees him and his sex buddies dress up like puppies and their owners for fun," Brown quotes American Thinker's Andrea Widburg as explaining. Lies Brinton has told about his past have begun to unravel, writes Brown, but believers should not mock or ridicule Brinton—they should pray for him. Read more. |
| | LISTEN: What Christians need to know about the Respect For Marriage Act | The so-called Respect for Marriage Act is expected to be signed by President Joe Biden on Tuesday. On the latest episode of "The Inside Story" podcast, Christian Post reporter Ryan Foley explains what sparked The Respect For Marriage Act, why proposed religious freedom amendments failed to pass and why proponents pursued the bill's passage. Listen now. | Will the Supreme Court strike down gay marriage? | Conservative law firm Liberty Counsel has speculated that if the so-called Respect for Marriage Act is signed into law by President Joe Biden, it could lead to the United States Supreme Court overturning its 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. The bill’s passage could "actually create the perfect scenario to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 5-4 opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges regarding same-sex marriage," the firm indicated in a statement released Monday. "As a result of RFMA, when Obergefell is overturned, those who obtained licenses will be ‘grandfathered’ in and the licenses will remain valid,” explained the group. "However, like abortion, the Supreme Court will overturn Obergefell and states will then be free to return to their laws prior to 2015 where they defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman." The Energy Department put Brinton on leave last month after he was charged with felony theft in Minnesota. Read more. |
| | Apologist: Why Christianity is not 'intolerant' | Stand Strong Ministries founder and Summit Ministries faculty member Jason Jimenez says that Christianity is not "intolerant," explaining that being theologically correct is not the same as being intolerant. His comments came during a "Challenging Conversations" podcast last week in which he addressed questions from listeners. A number of these questions focused on whether biblical orthodoxy and Christianity, in general, are not relevant today and if Christianity has an "intolerant" belief system. Jimenez pointed out that Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all "exclusive" monotheistic religions, adding that Christianity is set apart from other religions because the faith challenges its followers to test it: "It says to test all things, to hold fast to that which is true. Over and over again, that's what the Bible teaches us. So, if Christianity is proven to be true, then it's not being intolerant. If Christ died for our sins, if He died for all humanity, that doesn't sound intolerant." Listen now. | | | | Thank you for spending part of your day with us.
