Teachers report sharp growth in game-based learning

An agriculture program that gets fresh produce into schools will expand after Gov. Jay Nixon signed the Farm to Table bill, which will take fresh produce to schools, hospitals, prisons, nursing homes and military bases. The Senate Education Committee has signed off on a measure creating an "achievement school district," which would take five low-performing public schools and turn over their operation to private education operators, most likely charter school companies. Read more>>
Backers of an initiative designed to boost Oregon's low high school graduation rate turned in signatures to qualify the measure for the November ballot. Their proposal would earmark state funding to give high schools an average of $800 per student to spend on approaches to boost graduation rates, including academic and social support for potential dropouts.
