P5 Software Suite Version 5.5 Released

We are happy to announce that the new version of our P5 Software Suite has been released today. Important features in P5 version 5.5 include Backup to the Cloud, Client-to-Client sync, a choice between two Archiving modes and extended Cloud support for Amazon Glacier, Backblaze and Generic S3. We have provided some useful information about the new features of Archiware P5 version 5.5 below.

With the new version, the Media Management and Storage license now allows customers to store 4TB instead of 2TB of data to disk or cloud. The increase in storage capacity is free for P5 customers with current maintenance.

Backup to the Cloud

For quick backup, restore and improved accessibility, P5 version 5.5 now allows users to back up data to the cloud. In addition to disk and tape, the P5 Backup module newly offers "Cloud Storage" as an option for the backup target. Supported cloud integrations include Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Generic S3 and Backblaze (B2).

Archiving using Pool or Object Format

P5 Suite version 5.5 provides users with the choice between two archiving modes for P5 Archive. The Pool Format includes all the familiar, powerful features of P5 and supports disk, tape and cloud storage. The Object Format enables single-file access without P5 and share-ability for cooperative workflows in the cloud. 

Client-to-Client Sync

To speed up data transfer between two P5 client machines, Archiware P5 version 5.5 now offers a Client-to-Client sync option for P5 Synchronize. The added flexibility eliminates the need for server involvement during data transfer. The main server load is alleviated and intermediate storage is no longer required. To use the Client-to-Client sync option, a separate license is required for each client.

Automatic Backup of Archive Indexes

In P5 version 5.5, Archive Indexes are automatically backed up to a selected location on the client. Backup of Archive Indexes occurs on a daily basis. The user determines the time at which each index is backed up. For a successful backup, a P5 client license is required.

CLI Features / P5 Interface / OS Support

New features in the CLI include post-archive preview generation, clip handling and automatic sorting of cloned volume sets. In the P5 user interface, the new version enables users to grant operating privileges and assign separate passwords to selected individuals. For Backup and Archive to the cloud, supported Operating Systems include macOS X, Windows, FreeBSD, Linux and Synology.
