| OZY Tribe, A month ago, I introduced myself as the new Managing Editor of OZY. Now I'm reaching out again to say: Thank you. Your response was overwhelming. I've been welcomed with open arms and a whole slew of smart, insightful, no-holds-barred suggestions for stories and ways to make OZY even stronger. Here at OZY, we see our features, podcasts and TV shows not as one-way “broadcasts” to our audience of 40M+, but as starting points for two-way conversations. Or, better, thousands-way conversations, whether through social media or live events like OZY Fest in New York's Central Park — where last month I had the chance to interview Rose McGowan, Salman Rushdie and Jemele Hill live on stage. In that spirit, I want to show how OZY is listening to your comments and evolving through your suggestions. | *** You said: Congratulations on your latest adventure, Fay! OZY should cover "the new currency" — not just bitcoin but many new coins. We're just getting started and the disruption is going to be massive and healthy, creating liberating ways for people to earn and spend and upend traditional economics for good. — Cynthia I say: OZY gives you in-depth series that are ahead of their time and worthy of yours. We've created an illustrated guide, WTF Is Blockchain?, and this week we revealed the next battleground for cryptocurrency: local ATMs. Soon we'll introduce you to a set of new economic models — from no tax to doughnut economics via Buddhism — that we guarantee will stretch your mind. | | *** You said: I love the Presidential Daily Brief, but often the articles start with some type of play on words. ... For light human interest pieces that's fine, sometimes even appropriate, but for serious pieces, it feels like it takes away from the appropriate weight of the story. — Seth I say: We've listened and made changes to our daily PDB news updates. You can still rely on OZY to inject levity into your day, however, with sex advice columns and our True Story section — like the one about the man who had two babies with two different mothers ... on the same day and in the same hospital. | | *** You said: You bring a lot of experience with you and I look forward to following your writing. I am a retired public school principal with over 40 years of experience. I'd really like to see you and your organization do some research in that area. — Ben I say: Do check out our series High School, Disrupted, and next month look out for the launch of ahead-of-the-curve profiles of tomorrow's college disrupters and startling stats on the state of the education system around the world. Unusually, OZY has its own education arm, OZY EDU, which is currently on a nationwide tour of U.S. colleges. Interested in having OZY visit your campus? Get in touch: [email protected]. | | *** And finally, you said: It's a pleasure to get to know you. That's what I like about OZY's take on news: I feel like you connect us to issues and make them relatable, not just depressing and wordy. As for me, I am an avid OZY reader. ... Honestly, you are changing the way I consume news and I love being a part of this club. So I just wanted to say keep it up, we're so here for it! — Lys I say: We couldn't have put it better ourselves. *** I'll be writing to you more regularly in the future and greatly look forward to more of your thoughts and story ideas via [email protected]. To join the conversation right now, go to OZY.com or one of our Facebook pages: OZY, OZY World and OZY Future. | With all the best to you and yours, Fay Schlesinger |
