by Adam Daigle | Acadiana business editor Good morning, Acadiana business news readers. Let's skip small talk and get down to business. The case of whether or not to put a convenience store/gas station in the Four Corners area of Lafayette is now headed to court. You may recall how the planning commission voted 3-1 to deny the plat approval for the project after significant opposition from nearby residents. The city council then voted down an appeal of the decision. Now the developer has filed suit. Here's the rub: How much say do residents have in deciding what gets built in their neighborhood? The developer claims in his suit that the property's current zoning allows for what he wants to build. But residents are strongly opposed and cited a number of reasons, claiming that a gas station would be counter to ongoing efforts to revitalize their area of Lafayette that was neglected for decades. The case has been assigned to Judge Marilyn Castle. You can read the full story here. Have a great day. |
