Stealing time: Louisiana is taking heat from federal officials and victims rights advocates for routinely holding prisoners beyond their release dates — in one case by almost a year. Inmate lawsuits, scathing state audits and a two-year DOJ investigation that found widespread errors in calculating sentences haven't been enough to halt the practice. Now federal judges have added their objections. Jacqueline DeRobertis and John Simerman have the story. Saving trees: The palm trees that line Canal Street and can be found in other areas of the city and state are succumbing a disease that has arborists flummoxed. Tristan Baurick has this report on "lethal bronzing," and what's being done to save palms now under attack in six parishes. Anger and grief: It's been three years since Ronnika Richburg was shot dead in her mother's Avondale home as family members fought against her attacker, whom they identified as her boyfriend, Lloyd Jones. Jones has fled the country, and Richburg's family, including her 7-year-old son, now struggle with the grief and anger over their loss, and justice denied. Michelle Hunter has the story.
