Over 360 Covid breaches and 100 fines given out in Lancashire

Hard to stomach isn’t it?

To think that, in a worldwide pandemic, children in greatest need could be short-changed with the very food on the table as they learn from home.

Following the huge outcry in the last lockdown, moves were made to ensure those youngsters who normally get free schools meals still get fed.

Each child is allotted £30 worth of groceries but what we are seeing represented in many cases falls far short of that.

Our reporter took the items delivered to one Lancashire teenager last week and added the cost of the items via a supermarket app (for clarity, she used Asda)

It added up to less than £6 (£5.75 to be precise) so who is pocketing the rest?

Today, as the scale of the problem became clear, the country started taking notice with even footballer Marcus Rashford warning “something is going wrong” and pledging to take action to try and fix it.

We have learned many things during this lockdown but a key one is we must look after those most vulnerable - not let them down.
