| Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, Aug. 3. At the quarter pole of the preseason, our Saints coverage team sat down to discuss the first week of camp and answer some of the most pressing issues as the team continues preparation for its regular season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 11. Our Saints roundtable covers a variety of topics, including the most surprising player and disappointing player at camp, the strongest and weakest spots on the team and the group's early impressions of head coach Dennis Allen. The Saints made a mildly surprising move on Tuesday by adding a veteran tight end to the roster. Chris Herndon will add experience to the position group and compete for a roster spot behind starter Adam Trautman. Cornerback Paulson Adebo has been one of the standouts of training camp. The second year cornerback "has really stepped his game up," Allen said. Luke Johnson reports on the stellar start Adebo has enjoyed to his second NFL season. Meanwhile, another impressive Jameis Winston-to-Deonte-Harty bomb highlighted team drills during practice. The long pass play ranked high among the daily practice observations from our coverage team. Not all the news was good news on Tuesday. Second-year receiver Kawaan Baker was handed a six-game suspension by the NFL for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances. Baker is competing for a roster in the team's crowded receiver corps. Rookie safety Smoke Monday reportedly suffered a serious knee injury that could sideline the former Auburn University star for a significant period of time. Luke Johnson, who was a busy man on Tuesday, has the story.
