| Europe's decline, a German story? | 20/05/2024 While China is stepping up subsidies for electric cars and batteries, threatening the global balance, Germany continues to increase its direct investment there. Yet Germany's mercantilist strategy has been at the root of Europe's economic decline over the last fifteen years. According to Emmanuel Sales, "It's as if Germany was reluctant to project itself fully into Europe. But with the end of the Cold War and the advent of the euro, Berlin now has a historic responsibility for the destiny of the continent's peoples. It must abandon its mercantilist ideal and accept its European destiny.” | Read the study |

| How will the European elections reshape the political landscape? | 13/05/2024 Despite a surge on the radical right, pro-European parties are likely to retain a majority in the June elections. Nevertheless, for Pascale Joannin, "whatever their political colour", the representatives chosen "will have to commit to ensuring that Europe progresses and continues its integration, successfully begun seventy-four years ago. And not indulge, out of anger or frustration, in an experiment they might bitterly regret." | Read the study |

| Nationalist obstacles and geopolitical blind spots: specific case of North Macedonia | 06/05/2024 Against a backdrop of rising nationalism, the Macedonian parliament has still not voted to include recognition of the Bulgarian minority in the Constitution, or to introduce the other reforms expected by the European Commission as part of the EU accession process. Katerina Kolozova points out that, while negotiations have been frozen, the European Commission, which now sees enlargement as having a geopolitical dimension, needs to take a firmer line with Macedonia's decision-makers, particularly in the run-up to the presidential run-off election on 8 May and the renewal of its parliament. | Read the study |

Although he sits in the same group as the MEPs close to the President, he puts forward some ideas that are far removed from French positions. Proof that Franco-German dialogue is as necessary now as ever. | Read the interview |
