| Sino-Russian relations in a geopolitical Europe | 25/03/2024 The Sino-Russian alliance is one of circumstance, with its fragilities. Although strengthened by the conflict in Ukraine, this relationship is marked by an asymmetry that benefits China. Geopolitical Europe, for its part, has a seemingly insurmountable gulf with Russia, while trade rivalry with China should not prevent us from pursuing dialogue with the latter. Even if, for Pierre Andrieu, this dialogue is proving complex. | Read the study |

| Some little-known effects of global warming | 18/03/2024 The effects of climate change are more diverse than they appear, according to Louis Caudron. In some parts of the world, rainfall will increase, while in others, droughts will raise the problem of access to water and how to store it. Major shipping routes will evolve, such as the Northern Sea Route, which could be ice-free all year round from 2035. This will generate new opportunities for Russia, which will also benefit from climate change near the poles, as will Canada and Greenland. | Read the study |

| Agriculture, the adjustment variable in trade agreements? | 18/03/2024 In a context of liberalised trade, agriculture has a special place in the agreements negotiated by the European Union. Often the source of disputes, it must be analysed on a sector-by-sector basis to assess the impact of these agreements on European producers. The beef sector appears to be the weak link in the trade negotiations. Even if no trade agreement radically changes a market, certain lessons can be learned: negotiations remain too opaque, the environmental impact is not taken into account, controls are difficult and safeguard clauses are ineffective. According to Nicolas-Jean Bréhon, it is also important to avoid naivety by considering the strategic issues behind these agreements, and to support the disruptions they cause. | Read the study |

| 2024, a European political year - as seen by women | 04/03/2024 Although women have fought hard for the right to vote, they still face many obstacles to taking part in political life. Yet their mobilisation can make a difference at the polls, with fewer women than men voting for the far right. On the political scene, however, they suffer from a lack of representation, and when they do enter government, it is often for ministries of lesser importance. To achieve equality, women have to be prepared to take risks and overcome the mistrust they suffer. According to Stefanie Buzmaniuk, awareness of these difficulties is high at European level, and this should encourage progress. | Read the study |
