Kyriakos Mitsotakis' New Democracy wins Greek general election 26/06/2023 Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' party, New Democracy, came out well ahead in the Greek parliamentary elections held on 25 June, with 40.5% of the vote. It edged out Syriza (radical left), which obtained just 17.8%. Six other parties are represented in the Vouli, the single chamber of parliament, including three from the far right. With 158 of the 300 seats in the Vouli, New Democracy therefore has an absolute majority. |

Edgars Rinkevics is elected President of the Republic of Latvia 05/06/2023 On 31 May, the 100 deputies of the Saeima, the single chamber of Parliament, elected Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics as President of the Republic of Latvia by 52 votes in the 3rd ballot. The 49-year-old will officially begin his four-year term on 8 July. He succeeds Egils Levits, who chose not to stand for re-election. |
