| Nicos Christodoulides is the favourite in the first round of the Cypriot presidential election 09/01/2023
After two consecutive terms in office, the outgoing Cypriot head of state, Nicos Anastasiades of the Democratic Rally (DISY), cannot stand for re-election in the first round of the presidential elections to be held on 5 February. Former Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides is leading the polls with 39.73% of the vote, ahead of DISY president Averof Neophytou and Andreas Mavroyiannis supported by the Progressive Party of Workers (AKEL). A second round will be held on 12 February if none of the 14 candidates achieves an absolute majority. |
