Friend, Pop quiz: Q: What will it take to win the fight for Net Neutrality? In the battle to protect the open internet, there’s no doubt that we’re on the right side of history: We have the facts and the law and the internet on our side. But with the Trump administration in power, all bets are off. Our best weapon is people — huge numbers of us standing up and speaking out together, for as long as it takes to win. Chip in $10 to help inspire millions more people to become Net Neutrality activists. Free Press and our allies led the decade-long organizing effort that resulted in real Net Neutrality rules at the FCC in 2015. All told we organized nearly 4 million people to help score that historic win. This time around we’ll need even more pro-Net Neutrality activists to sway decision-makers to do the right thing. We’ll need to get so big and loud that it becomes politically toxic to harm the internet. That’s the only way we’ll drown out the influence of our industry opponents and save Net Neutrality from the Trump FCC’s plan to destroy it. It’ll be challenging to coordinate an organizing effort on that scale — and it’ll cost money to pull off. Donate $10 or more today to pump up the people power needed to win the fight for Net Neutrality. Every dollar you give will help us expand the ranks of Net Neutrality activists by: 1. Enabling more of you to join our member organizing calls. We had over 800 people sign up for our most recent call — far more than we can accommodate with our current tools. 2. Connecting Net Neutrality supporters with one another to organize more effectively on the local and regional levels — and to stay inspired for the long haul. 3. Turning out more and more people to pro-Net Neutrality events online and in the streets. The greater our ranks, the more visible and powerful we’ll be. 4. Reaching millions of people by livestreaming key events, including rallies and protests. Even if you can’t make it to an event in person, we want you to be able to participate remotely. 5. Helping greater numbers of people meet face to face with elected officials and make their voices heard. Ensuring elected officials hear from their constituents is a crucial way to combat the outsized influence of industry lobbyists. Trump’s FCC is doing everything it can to stop us, including violating our rights to free speech and peaceful protesting, but we refuse to be silenced. The more of us who stand together and speak up, the more powerful and effective we’ll be. And that’s exactly what Trump, FCC Chairman Pai, and their pals at Comcast and Verizon are afraid of. So let’s do it. With thanks— Carrie, Candace, Lucia and the rest of the Free Press Action Fund team P.S. Our organizing efforts are funded solely by gifts from individuals and charitable foundations. To stay independent we don’t take a cent from business, government or political parties; instead, we rely on gifts of $10 or more from people like you to keep us going strong. Thank you! |
