Plus: The never-ending family holiday
| | By caravan or boat: Those in search of living 'the dream' |
|
Sometimes the most extraordinary stories come from the most ordinary of places. From the awe-inspiring and powerful to the downright unbelievable, we've had the privilege of sharing some incredible stories in 2023. We were envious of Jodi and her family who were truly living the definition of "the dream". She and her partner, Daniel, left their jobs, packed up their four children and hit the road. They were a heartbeat away from putting down a home deposit, but instead they sold their belongings, bought a caravan and decided to never return from their road trip. Read how they did it. And hear more from the Life Matters series, Leap, here. Have you ever heard of Nel Law? Neither had we, until Sunday Extra explored how she became the first Australian woman to visit Antarctica — and fought society's expectations to get there. Nel was stowed away and had gone down first to Macquarie Island and then to Antarctica. In Australia, women weren't officially allowed to go to Antarctica until 1974. But Nel's husband was Phil Law, an important Antarctic scientist with ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) and together they found a way to make it happen. Check out these and other incredible stories for yourself. Happy New Year, Megan Mackander Acting Deputy Digital Editor, RN Enjoy getting ABC RN in your inbox? Invite your friends to sign up too! |
