According to the State Patrol, 73-year-old Carol Mattila and 79-year-old Gerald Mattila were traveling north on Spirit Lake Road just before seven p.m. when their vehicle pulled in front of a westbound vehicle on Highway 169.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 85-year-old Dale O'Brien of Superior is recovering from burns and smoke inhalation from a fire that started when he tried to start his gas fireplace, which caused the explosion.
