Dear Voornaam,
âWinners never quit, and quitters never win.â
Most of us have heard this cliché since we were youngsters. In sports, it is used with almost religious fervor by coaches to solicit extraordinary effort from people who feel like they have exhausted every ounce of energy they have inside.    The principle (if not the tired expression) carries through to everyday life for all of us. There are days when we feel like we canât get to the finish line. The work in front of us seems like it is too much for one person. The load is too heavy. This is how you WILL feel at some point in the New Year.
My job is to stretch you. Iâm here to challenge your thinking. I am here to take everything you know and everything you have come to believe as true â and stand it on its head. I do this not because I can but because it is the path that leads toward an extraordinary law practice and a phenomenal lifestyle.  The quality of your effort in the upcoming year is as important, if not more important, than the amount of effort you put into this process. We are focused on progress and not perfection. Momentum is important. Doing something â anything â even a little thing â to move forward is critical to achieving the firm and the lifestyle you desire.
But the resistance will be strong.
You will face obstacles all along the way. Some of them will be visible. Your colleagues will challenge your efforts. They will be quick to criticize. They will laugh at some of the things you are doing. And when you test out some of your new tactics â they may laugh if you donât get immediate results. You must push through this. You must fight through the opinions of your friends, colleagues, and partners. In the end, the results you achieve will speak for themselves.   The greatest resistance of all will come from you. You will need to fight your own desire to do nothing. This desire is as normal and natural as the daylight following night, but you must fight it. And you need to fight it aggressively. Â
âDoing nothingâ is easy.
âDoing nothingâ seems safe.
âDoing nothingâ will never get you criticized by your family, friends, partners, and colleagues. Â
But âdoing nothingâ is giving up. Â
Abraham Lincoln had many opportunities to give up. Lincoln lost his job as a clerk in a general store in 1831. He ran for the Illinois state legislature in 1832 and lost. In 1843 he failed to win his partyâs nomination for a congressional seat.
He tried running for the Illinois Senate in 1854. He lost. In 1858 he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate again. After each defeat, people laughed at Lincoln, yet in 1860, he was elected the 16th President of the United States. Just for a moment, think about how different our country would be if Lincoln had given up after one of these setbacks.
Get started now and keep going. Â
I wish you happiness, success, and prosperity in the New Year and beyond. Â Warm regards,
Dave Lorenzo The Godfather of Growth (786) 436-1986
