Dear Voornaam,
Earlier this week, during a meeting of my High-Net-Worth Client Attraction study group (led by Harry Cendrowski of Cendrowski Corporate Advisors), Ron Diamond (CEO of Diamond Wealth) shared some insights with us. By far, the biggest takeaway was about integrity. His money quote was:
"Intelligence is a commodity. Integrity is not."
While you may have integrity, you cannot go around and announce that you possess this quality. That announcement itself will cause people to immediately assume that you lack the very quality you are trumpeting.
Here are twelve ways to demonstrate that you are a person of high integrity (without coming out and stating it):
1. Make an effort to be dependable - Do what you promise, when you promise it. If something unexpected comes up and needs your attention, make sure that the people who are relying on you know as soon as possible and offer options for how to move forward.
2. Be honest in all circumstances - Always tell the truth, no matter how difficult the situation. Even if itâs uncomfortable to get honest feedback, take it in stride and use it as an opportunity to grow.
3. Respect yourself and others - Treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of who they are or what their circumstances may be. This includes both verbally and non-verbally being mindful of body language and attitudes.
4. Be authentic - Be true to yourself, and donât be afraid to express your opinions or stand up for what you believe in. People will respect you more if they know that you are genuine and open about who you are.
5. Take responsibility - Own up to your mistakes and take the time to find solutions. Demonstrate that you care about doing the right thing by being accountable for your actions.
6. Listen attentively - Make sure you are actively listening to conversations and responding accordingly, instead of just focusing on what you have to say.
7. Be open-minded - Be willing to consider different perspectives, especially if they go against your own beliefs.
8. Stay humble - Recognize that you donât know everything and admit when you are wrong. Donât take credit for other peopleâs accomplishments or ideas.
9. Avoid gossip - Refrain from talking about other people behind their backs, and donât jump to conclusions without all the facts.
10. Remain calm - Donât be quick to anger or lash out in stressful situations. Stay composed and rational. This will allow you to make better decisions in the moment.
11. Be generous - Offer your time, energy, and resources to help people in need.
12. Be compassionate - Show empathy for those who are going through tough times, and provide support wherever possible.
These twelve principles will demonstrate your commitment to maintaining high personal integrity. When you live by these values, you'll build trust with others and gain the respect that comes with it.
