Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Tuesday, February 7. The Saints coaching staff shuffle continued Monday, with a couple different moves. First, the team is reportedly expected to name Joe Woods its defensive coordinator (the move could be made official today), bringing in a coach who has some brief experience working alongside Dennis Allen. Only a few hours after that news broke, New Orleans learned it was going to have to replace a familiar face on its sideline: Zach Strief, who has spent the entirety of his professional football career in New Orleans, is heading out west to join Sean Payton's staff on the Denver Broncos. This Saints Insider's take: Good move for Strief, who is getting a promotion and taking on a bigger role on Payton's staff. Good coaches get promotions, and Strief is a good coach. He wasn't long for New Orleans. On the flip side, Woods' defenses have performed well in some spots and not so well in others, but the point to remember here is that it's still Allen's show. He is going to call defensive plays, and adding a coach with nearly two decades of NFL experience to the staff won't hurt. That's all we've got for now, stay locked in at nola.com for all the latest.
