PICKS OF THE WEEK Borderline Café They were part of the “Top 20” list of nominees for the Best Breakfast in Cleveland and justifiably so. Borderline has been a Lakewood favorite forever. We even remember the days when the interior was dreary and the till was cash-only. But the food was always epic and remains so. We’ll always love their modern gourmet takes on breakfast staples – BBQ pulled pork hash, the Philly cheesesteak benedict, chorizo tacos, steak n’ egg sliders and stuffed French toast with sweetened cream cheese filling, then decorated with strawberries, blueberries and real maple syrup. They didn’t land in the Top 3 according to our readers’ poll, but they’re #1 to many. Borderline is at 18510 Detroit Rd., Lakewood. DETAILS. Poppy As the Greater Cleveland culinary scene mourns the closure of Salt+ in Lakewood, it’s never been a better time to check out its sister restaurant, Poppy on the East Side. Poppy also specializes in seasonal small plates, flatbreads, craft cocktails and beyond. Can’t-miss dishes include the burrata with strawberry balsamic and croissant crisps, scallops with grilled corn and avocado salsa or the banana cake with almond butter caramel. Poppy is at 12502 Larchmere Boulevard in Cleveland.
