😷 An air quality alert continues for northern Minnesota Tuesday due to Canadian wildfire smoke.

Minneapolis officer who fatally shot Amir Locke heads MPD’s new use-of-force training

Police chief Brian O’Hara said Sgt. Mark Hanneman, who’s been with MPD for nearly a decade, is an “outstanding” trainer committed to bringing positive change to MPD. But Locke’s family and other community members say nothing justifies placing the officer who shot and killed a 22-year-old Black man at the helm of use-of-force training.

Immigrant rights groups are raising concerns about plain-clothes ICE agents detaining people immediately after their court hearings at Fort Snelling. 🐻 Woman seriously injured by bear in northwest Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the bear wounded a 69-year-old woman near Comstock in Barron County on Saturday afternoon.
🐶 Minnesota K-9 unit to help with search and recovery efforts after Texas flash flooding. The K-9 unit is from one of two urban search and rescue units in the state. They’re trained to help in the aftermath of structural collapse, and with other search and rescue strategies — including searches over a wide area.
🌎 Community members, activists demand the closure of Northern Iron foundry. On Sunday afternoon, neighbors and environmental activists from the Climate Justice Committee gathered to voice their frustration over ongoing lead emissions and the foundry’s impact on the community’s health and quality of life.
