If you're an LSU fan, you may look at this year's football team and not exactly see a work of art. The ESPN computer that compiles its Football Power Index (FPI) looks at LSU and sees something like the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Well, maybe not that breathtaking, but it does see something pretty impressive there. The FPI figured on LSU going 9-3 before the season but now has the Tigers going 10-2, favored to win every remaining game except for Alabama. Always, and forever, Alabama. Anyway. Though Las Vegas has LSU as a 2.5-point underdog to Tennessee for Saturday's game in Tiger Stadium (11 a.m., ESPN), the FPI gives LSU a 58.3% chance of winning. Considering how high-powered Tennessee's offense is, I figure most LSU fans would take those chances. Speaking of point spreads, our Zach Ewing looks at some of the top college games this weekend, including Tulane's game at home with East Carolina. I've got a look back at five of the most memorable games of the LSU-Tennessee series, inclduding the one-point loss that cost the Tigers a second straight national title in 1959 and the unreal ending to the 2010 game. By the way, our Wilson Alexander is working up a major retrospective on the 2010 game for our Saturday gameday coverage. We've also got a little basketball news for you. We've got the lineup of LSU men's and women's players who will be going to SEC Basketball Media Days later this month in Birmingham, and we have all the details on basketball's Geaux Mad set for Friday night. Well, that's all for now. Thank you for subscribing to our LSU newsletter. We'll be back each and every day throughout football season, so come back tomorrow and bring a friend. We have group discounts (actually, it doesn't cost anything). Scott Rabalais |
