Missed us yesterday? We didn’t want to add to the nonprofit pileup in your inbox, so we’re doing what we do best and making our own lane. We’re calling it #GratitudeWednesday.
We want to celebrate one of our programs that some of you may not be aware of. Now in its sixth year, Litquake’s Elder Project brings year-round creative writing and storytelling workshops to retirement communities across San Francisco and Oakland. Our teachers offer weekly sessions in-person and online, with the aim of fostering new pathways to self expression and community. At the end of each 12-week session, the class publishes an anthology and performs at a live reading for friends and loved ones. Many of these students even go on to publish writing in literary magazines, anthologies, and entire collections of their own. There is nothing quite like seeing someone develop a love of literature, and a confidence in their own literary abilities, at the ripe age of 75. We have so much gratitude for the teachers and students that make this program possible.

| Last week, on a beautiful day in Yerba Buena Gardens, several of our Elder Project students read alongside members of the RAWdance collective as a part of Step/Song/Story. This free, collaborative storytelling event brought together Bay Area-based dancers, musicians, and text-based artists for a cross-disciplinary performance. It was an unforgettable afternoon, and luckily you can watch the whole performance through the link below. |
