Your Friday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Jan 21, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, How do you celebrate the end of the week and the start of the weekend? I’ll hazard a guess that for many, a small glass of wine might be involved...particularly for those of us who couldn’t face Dry January after the year we have had. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with a glass of wine after a hard week at work...or is there? For years now, scientists have been telling us that wine can actually improve our health because it is packed with antioxidants which can promote better heart health. That made us all feel quite good about ourselves as we raised a glass at the end of the week. But now the World Heart Federation has rained on the parade by saying that it doesn't take into account the harms produced by drinking too much wine, particularly at home in large glasses. How depressing. Not that this is likely to stop most of us reaching for the corkscrew at some point over the weekend. Maybe just don’t have that second (or third) bottle...even if it seems like a good idea at the time. Cheers! Until next time, take care, Gillian [email protected] | |
