To show how much they care about our children’s education, public school teachers in some 27 districts across the state denied our kids a day of education so they could protest at the capitol. What says, “I deserve a raise!” more than blowing off work? According to our Ed Is Watching blog, the lost productivity alone cost at least $13.3 million. To put that into terms that educators use, if a new textbook costs $50, that’s enough to buy 266,000 of them. If those books were two inches thick and stacked on top of one another, it would be 44,333 feet high. That’s three times taller than the tallest mountain in Colorado. I’m glad the teachers union is putting our kids first. In my latest for the Denver Post I add up what teachers really get paid and how they could get paid even more. If you missed last week’s Founders’ Night Dinner, you missed one of our best as we “celebrated” Colorado’s evolution into California. Here’s a taste of what you missed: Our obnoxious video honoring D’Evelyn award winner Cappy Shopneck Our touching video honoring Bickel award winner Laura Carno A recap of the evening on Steven Heyward’s Powerline Blog My hometown of Boulder is on the verge of passing an “assault weapon” ban. Don’t be fooled that this is just Boulder being whiny, elitist, and symbolic. This is the first step in a Michael Bloomberg plan to get cities and towns across the state to ban guns based on their appearance. This is about your city being next. The poorly written Boulder ordinance would outlaw the very first gun I ever owned, a .22 rifle. Why? It can be fitted with a mean looking folding stock with a pistol grip. Learn about this scheme here: My piece for the Boulder Daily Camera on how their plan is hateful against a political minority My column in the Denver Post on why I will not comply with this law Michelle Morin’s podcast with me on how gun owners should fight this bigoted proposal LINK Dave Kopel’s appearance on Morin’s podcast discussing what this ordinance really is.
