Where NOLA Eats

Greetings, New Orleans foodies! This week, Ian McNulty and Chelsea Shannon share an Italian feast at Del Porto in Covington. Toups Meatery in Mid-City steps up to help hungry kids. The Jazz Festival has released its lineup of food vendors, including some that were missed last year. The owners of the popular brunch destination Nice Guys have a new project, and Flour Moon bagels will have a new outlet on St. Charles Avenue.  Finally, Liz Williams of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum invites us to broaden our horizons with recipes for a pan-American dinner of tequila chicken, plaintains and quinoa.

1. That's Italian!

When people ask us for an upscale northshore lunch recommendation, we know they’ll love Del Porto in Covington. On a recent visit to this Italian standout, Ian McNulty and Chelsea Shannon tried the antipasti board, golden beets and lamb ragu, to start.

2. Toups Meatery in Mid-City, which served Family Meal to the community during the COVID pandemic, has swung back into action to feed hungry New Orleans children after Gov. Jeff Landry's administration refused summer food help from the federal government. First up: distributing hundreds of Easter dinners.

 3. Wait! There's more.

The much-anticipated lineup of Jazz Festival food vendors is out, including the return of crawfish bread, among other favorite treats. A historic location most recently home to the Little Gem Saloon will become the next project for the owners of Nice Guys. And fans of Flour Moon bagels will have another location to find them  — at the Hotel Henrietta Uptown.

4. Southbound.

Ready for some new flavors? Liz Williams of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum brings us simple recipes for a pan-American dinner of tequila chicken, plaintains and quinoa.

In New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats.

The Must Read

A New Orleans restaurant steps up after Jeff Landry declines federal money for a meal program

Toups' Meatery will be preparing Easter dinner for free for about 1,000 people, including some 600 children. Amanda Toups, co-owner of the Mid-City restaurant along with her husband, Isaac Toups, is grateful for the support that’s helping their restaurant do this. She's also fighting mad about the reason they're compelled to do it. Read more
