RENTAL RESTRICTIONS: Five months after a federal court invalidated New Orleans’ short-term rental law, the city Planning Commission has produced a draft replacement that would limit permits on residential streets to one per each side of a block and require the rental operator to live on site. GIGGING AGAIN: Recently released from prison, one of New Orleans’ most prominent musicians, the jazz trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, has lined up his first high-profile gig. Mayfield served 15 months of an 18-month sentence for defrauding the New Orleans Public Library Foundation of $1.3 million. ADMISSION DENIED: Jeffrey Vappie, the police officer who is accused in a divorce filing of having an affair with New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell while he worked on her security detail, denies admitting to his wife that he and the mayor were in a relationship, as his wife has asserted.
