| | | Silver Lining? | HRT Could Reduce Risk of Alzheimer’s for Some Women New research from two U.K. universities suggests that hormone replacement therapy could cut dementia risk for women who carry a gene called APOE4 — the strongest risk factor gene for Alzheimer’s disease. The “observational study” found that HRT was associated with “better memory and larger brain volumes” for those with APOE4 — but it did not consider whether they went on to develop dementia. Masic and colleagues used chemical mapping and multi-scale imaging tools to examine strange white “clasts” in the concrete that were assumed to be the result of poor mixing or substandard materials.
