The Diary of Anne Frank: Beloved and Banned
Diary of a Young Girl, adapted for the stage and screen as The Diary of Anne Frank, is arguably one of the most widely read Jewish books of all time. Before Holocaust education curricula were introduced across the United States, millions of people learned about the Holocaust through Anne Frank's experience. Now, even as new generations of students are discovering Anne's Diary, bans of the work are gaining traction.
Join Dr. Lauren Bairnsfather, CEO of the Anne Frank Center USA, and Adam Langer, executive editor of the Forward and creator of the "Playing Anne Frank" podcast, for a discussion of how Anne's story has generated acclaim and censure and how her message can persist.
This event is part of the full-day New York Jewish Book Festival at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City. This session will be recorded and posted online after the event.

All ages, from tweens to seniors, are invited to a one-hour workshop led by Forward contributor, journalist and author Beth Harpaz on how to jumpstart the writing process. We’ll take inspiration from some great Jewish writers; we’ll talk about using moments, details and memories to craft a meaningful story, and we’ll spend a few minutes writing together. Paper and pen will be provided — or bring your laptop or favorite journal.
This event is part of the full-day New York Jewish Book Festival at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City.
The Supreme Court: Is the Crown Jewel of American Democracy in Peril?
The conservative nature of the current U.S. Supreme Court may impact the future of issues such as gun laws, reproductive rights, climate change, social media, and more. Increased oversight of judicial ethics or proposals to add more justices to the Court, institute a retirement age or term limits might change the court forever. Is the crown jewel of American democracy in peril?
One of the foremost and respected reporters on the court, NPR’s Nina Totenberg will take us through the latest developments over the last year. In conversation with Forward Editor-in-Chief Jodi Rudoren, Nina will lead us through the current issues, answer questions and offer predictions for what’s to come.
The event is free for current Forward supporters. For all others, a minimum $18 donation is requested.
Help us celebrate Forverts Editor Rukhl Schaechter's 25th anniversary. Join our VIP event in New York City or make a gift in Rukhl's honor and support our Yiddish language and cultural coverage.
The Convening brings together Jewish women philanthropists, advocates, and leaders to tackle society’s most pressing social issues and devise solutions through a gender lens. Editor-in-Chief Jodi Rudoren will moderate a panel on “The State of Women in America Post-Presidential Election.”
