Harris and Trump hold dueling events in Texas with 11 days until election |
There are just 11 days left until the election, and with two new polls showing the race deadlocked, the two candidates are traveling to the Lone Star state. Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to hold a rally tonight in Houston, where Beyoncé is expected to make an appearance, according to three sources familiar with the plans. Texas is not considered a battleground, but the Harris campaign said it selected the state to shine a light on its strict abortion ban in her speech tonight on reproductive freedom. This afternoon, Trump is expected to sit down with Joe Rogan for a recording of his podcast in Austin, according to two sources familiar with the planning. “The Joe Rogan Experience” is ranked as one of the most popular podcasts, especially among young men, one of the key demographics the Trump campaign has been targeting. This evening, Trump will hold an event in Michigan, then tomorrow, he’ll head to Pennsylvania, and will end the weekend with a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. |

E. coli cases linked to McDonald’s rise to 75 across 13 states, CDC says |
The number of people who have been sickened in the deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders has risen to 75, the CDC reported today. Those 75 cases, up from 49 on Tuesday, have been reported in 13 states. The CDC said that 22 people have been hospitalized, up from 20, according to the new data. One person has died amid the outbreak, according to the agency. The FDA is examining whether slivered onions served on the hamburgers were the source of the contamination. On Thursday, McDonald’s identified Taylor Farms, a California grower, as the source of the potentially tainted onions. A Taylor Farms spokesperson told Bloomberg the company has found no traces of E. coli in tests of raw or finished onions, but it has issued a recall of four raw onion products out of an abundance of caution due to potential contamination. |
Biden formally apologizes to Native Americans for abusive schools |
President Joe Biden apologized to Native American communities today for the abuses committed within the government-run boarding school system that forcibly separated children from their families for decades. “I formally apologize as president of the United States of America for what we did,” Biden said, in remarks at the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona. “It's long overdue.” Between 1819 through the 1970s, the U.S. established and supported boarding schools with the purpose of assimilating American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian children by forcibly removing them from their families, the Department of the Interior reported. Many of those children endured physical and emotional abuse, and in some cases died, according to the department. A recent federal report identified the deaths of at least 973 children enrolled in the schools. |
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa clears concussion protocol and will play Sunday |
Six weeks after his frightening injury on the field, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has cleared the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol and will start on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, the team has announced. Tagovailoa hasn’t played since leaving Miami’s Week 2 game with a concussion, at least the third such injury of his professional career. The quarterback faced calls to retire for his own safety after his most recent head injury. He addressed the fears about his return at a news conference Monday. “I appreciate your concern, I really do,” Tagovailoa said. “I love this game, and I love it to the death of me. That’s it.” |
