Welcome to Term 4 Welcome back to term 4 everyone. I hope you managed to get a break and spend some of the holidays with your children and some time for yourselves as well. This term is only eight and a half weeks long, we finish on Wednesday 15th December which gives us the required number of days. Term 4 is packed with lots of exciting activities, as well as continuing with the basics in literacy and maths. So buckle up as it will be all go! Camps The Year 5s headed off to Camp Columba today and they will be in their camp bubble for 4 days, returning on Friday. Sadly as we are not in level 1, and many of the camp venues/activities do not operate unless at level 1, we have had to cancel our Year 6 camps to Dunedin. Instead the teachers are planning local activities so the Year 6 students will be exploring local places and activities. Writing Assessments This week we have started our schoolwide writing assessments which we will moderate using a rubric and this will enable us to see how we are tracking as a school, as a year level and as individual learners. As per process the results will be analysed and a report prepared for the Board as well as shared in our newsletter. Pantomime The Year 5/6 drama club panto is now in official practice mode as students have their parts and have started memorising their lines. We are looking at performing the panto (lockdowns and levels hopefully will play the game) in the week beginning 6th December, most likely the 8th and 9th December with dress rehearsals the previous 2 days of that week. We have a large cast and there are a number of staff involved. Jennie, Belinda and I have been working on getting the actors in place and now getting them up to standard with their acting. Hannah is our choreographer, Jason and Kerry are our sound and light production team and Kath will sort the makeup and backdrop needs as she has done previous years. We are performing Rock Bottom which is like the Flintstones but on steroids. The cast will be asked to come to school some weekends so we have time to get this production ready for staging. What's Going On The junior classes are having some cricket instruction this week, with the middle school next week, followed by the seniors. On Friday we have a group of musicians coming to entertain us in the morning. Remember Monday 25th is the Labour Day holiday so school is closed for instruction that day. Cookbook It's published and ready for purchase - Bite 'from mountain munches, lakeside lunches and everything in between'...the new WPS Cookbook is here! The new Cookbook is now ready for pre-launch sales and for the rest of this week it is available at the prelaunch price of $40 (see poster below). The launch for the Cookbook is happening at school now, because of our level 2 status, on Friday 29th October from 5pm - 7pm in Pod 6. This is for sponsors as well as any parents who are keen to have a look at the cookbook, place an order and enjoy a glass of bubbles and a nibble of the gastronomic delights cooked up from recipes in the cookbook. Child Anxiety and Sleep workshop for parents Worried about your child's anxiety and sleep or your own? Check out the flyer later in this newsletter about workshops for parents coming up next week. Assemblies There will be no audience invited to any school assemblies until we return to level 1. The rule about 100 adults gathering still applies to schools. Thank you all for being so polite, respectful and for adhering to the use of the app and only coming into school, masked, when it is essential. Let's hope we can avoid this Delta virus and lockdown leaves us to finish off our term in peace! |
