Wanna-Be-A-Star Finals and Band Performance After two years of covid restrictions it was amazing to have our 'Wanna-Be-A-Star' show back this year. Congratulations to ALL the students who participated and displayed their amazing talents. Junior School Middle School Senior School School Band Thanks to Anne Jenkins for the great inspiration and organisation of this event. Maths is all go at WPS Over the last 2 days our maths lead team of 7, along with lead teachers from the other Upper Clutha Schools have been working with our wonderful maths facilitator, Rob Profitt White, looking at maths task design and assessment. We have one more session in term 4 with Rob this year and we have just signed up to continue working with him for another year. The building of teacher capability and having fidelity in a learning/teaching philosophy and approach are the key essence of effective pedagogy in literacy and maths. In fact any learning - beats any 'programme' heads down as teachers can pull out strategies and tasks that are truly personalised or differentiated for each learner as they need them to develop their own knowledge, skills and strategies. Also it is a fun approach - our kids love the games and practices. Dress Like A Pirate Day I have my outfit all ready for Friday. A striped t-shirt and a scarf around the head or as a belt works well. It will be a fun day with teams games in the afternoon as Tribe Day. I have heard some 'pirates' also have their tribe colours featuring in their costumes. The PTA will be providing a sausage, free of charge for lunch, but as it is only 1 per child please send your child along with plenty of other things to eat for lunch. Central Lakes Polyfest Performance for Senior Kapahaka At last, after two years of restrictions, our wonderful Kapahaka group will be performing at the 2022 Central Lakes Polyfest on Wednesday 19th October, at the Queenstown Events Centre. They will be travelling in our school vans, leaving from school at 8:30am to allow time to watch and support some of our local schools. Our Kapahaka group is performing at 11:00am. There is no cost to the children but spectators are asked to make a gold coin donation. More information will be sent home to children in the Kapahaka group this week. Thanks Whaea Anne and Coral for working with Whaea MaryAnne to prepare our children for this Polyfest and for organising their involvement and inspiring them to perform. You are TUMEKE! Positive Behaviour For Learning - PB4L PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. The framework is based on international evidence and is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. Each fortnight we focus on a school wide goal to encourage positive behaviours. The current goal is: 'We take care of our school and use spaces and equipment for their purpose'. |

Wānaka Junior Touch Wānaka Junior Touch will be played in Term 4 on Friday nights at Kelly’s Flat (Aubrey Road) for Year 5 through to Year 10 (see below for Year 3 & 4*). Last year all teams were mixed, but this year we are looking to have separate girls and boys divisions. The focus will be on fun, participation, skill development, and learning the game. Season Start: Friday 21 October 2022 (first week of term) Season End: Friday 9 December 2022 Times: Teams will be allocated their time slot (likely between 3.30pm and 6pm) once registration numbers and teams are finalised. Grades: Grades will be determined by the number of registrations received but we are looking to have teams for girls and boys for i) Years 5 & 6 ii) Years 7 & 8 and iii) Years 9 & 10 Teams: We will allocate players into even teams, so players may get moved during the first weeks if games are lopsided. Playing Uniform: Everyone will be allocated a team and a playing singlet. No bare feet, spikes, and rugby boots with removable sprigs are allowed. Cost: $40 per child and payment will be online. Registrations: Opening later this week (check at https://www.sporty.co.nz/wanakajuniortouch ) * For Years 3 & 4, Tiny from Sport Central will run 45-minute sessions. The sessions are about learning the skills and playing games, as the kids work towards playing Touch. There will be no fee payable, but parent help will be required to help out so email Tiny at [email protected] to register your child and offer Tiny a helping hand. |
