EOTC Thursday
A reminder that all EOTC school based students need to wear clothing that is suitable for exercise and possibly getting dirty on Thursday EOTC days. e.g. track pants and trainers. Please leave sleepwear such as oodies and onesies at home. Fathers Day Breakfast $5 per breakfast. Deadline for purchasing tickets is 3pm tomorrow, Wednesday 31st August. Please see poster below for further information.

Kings Seeds Fundraiser for Garden to Table Kings Seeds are giving Wānaka Primary School the opportunity to fundraise through the sale of seeds - flowers, organics, seeds for sprouting, herbs and vegetables. The order form is attached (it is quite substantial - a hard copy will be sent home with students tomorrow). Your completed orders need to be returned to the School Office by Friday 2nd September. ERO - Profile Reporting Te Ara Huarau is the evaluation approach that the Education Review Office (ERO) is using in our school. This is a developmental approach to evaluation where ERO and our school work together over time rather than one off reviews that happened previously. Te Ara Huarau is used in most English-medium state and state-integrated schools. ERO maintains a regular review programme to evaluate and report on the education and care of young people in the schools. Our school worked alongside ERO to write our Profile Report. This type of report will only happen once as part of our initial engagement with Te Ara Huarau. The profile report reflects our strategic goals and a shared evaluation focus on one or more areas that are important to us as we work together to improve outcomes for all our learners. ERO, like us, have a strong focus on equity and excellence. Future reporting will show our progress and achievement towards meeting the goals we have set. Public reports like the Profile Report are published on ERO’s website. Illness and Mask Wearing Last week our absences were as follows: we had 5 children and 2 staff off with COVID and 3 in isolation, so those stats are going down. However those with other bugs, colds and flus are at 37-40 students a day. The week before we averaged a similar average of 35- 40 children absent a day. The Board will consider the numbers for the rest of the week and I will update you on Friday, via email as promised.
We had Otago medical students onsite last Tuesday as part of their community engagement and they were very impressed with the majority of children wearing masks and the responsible way they were doing so, especially our 5 and 6 year olds. The children were also very articulate about the reason for wearing them or distancing and talking about looking after others as well as themselves. The med students were very impressed with how happy and engaged our students are and the positivity of the school in general. They also commented that school seemed much more exciting, engaging and quite different to their primary school experiences.
Seasons for Growth Last week Coral Potter (a teacher in Pod 5) took part in the 2 day Seasons for Growth training. This is much valued training given all the pressures our children and families are facing currently. The Seasons for Growth programme is about supporting children dealing with loss, grief, changes in their lives and bereavements. This programme will be offered again next year. Hannah Chisholm in Pod 8 is also a trained facilitator so Coral will join Hannah and Mandy from REAP in delivering this programme in Wānaka Primary School.
FUN FRIDAY this week Come dressed in your tribe colours and remember it is Random Acts of Kindness Week
We start with Fathers Day Breakfast (8-9am) and then it's the PTA hot chocolate/Milo during morning tea for the children (great acts of kindness, thanks PTA). We finish the day with our Tribe afternoon with a games afternoon all based around activities/acts of kindness. Anna, Hannah and the student leaders have a great afternoon planned for everyone. Bring on those tribe colours and chants! COULD ALL STUDENTS BRING A NAMED MUG for their hot chocolate on Friday morning. If you can help please let your teacher know.
WPS Cross Country Thanks to Kath for organising another brilliant sports event yesterday - a great day was had by all with some pleasing results and even the weather played its part. It was great to see parents back in enjoying watching children take part again. Thank you for coming along to support this event.
Calendar Art Classes are busy finishing their calendar art this week so keep an eye out for the preview of your child's art work and the instructions for orders in the next week or so.

The Arts - Year 2 Photos show Year two students proudly wearing their newly printed t-shirts for the cross country races. The students helped screen print the tribe logo (designed by Year 6 students) onto their t-shirts last week. Digi - Year 3 Last week our Year 3 students participated in a treasure hunt around the school in search of QR codes, a photography lesson where they produced some amazing photos and a digital sketching lesson where they created their own version of a landscape that included the Wānaka Tree.

Cross Country
What wonderful weather we had for our cross country yesterday!
It was great to be able to welcome parents along to support the children; thank you for the encouragement you provided to the runners on course. Congratulations to every participant who took on the challenge of completing their course with a 'can-do' attitude; this was evident by the perseverance they showed while running and the smiles (and relief) on their faces at the end of each race. I bet there were many children who slept extra well last night!
Well done to the top ten Year 4, 5 and 6 finishers who have qualified to compete at the Upper Clutha Cross Country event. Parents of qualifiers will be contacted by email this week.

Under "Dashboards" at the top you can click in and view the new digital research I am working on to assist teachers and the children on topics they are working on. This is a process and the content will continue to grow as I work on it with the teachers and the National Library, collating good material. It's kind of like a school intranet.

Open to all Year 3 to Year 8 students of intermediate skiing/boarding ability, no racing experience required. Come and have FUN racing down a Giant Slalom course. Get a team of 3 or 4 together from your school. PRIMARY OR INTERMEDIATE - they will have to race in the category according to the corresponding school year of the eldest team member. Teams are either - all boys, all girls or mixed where the best 3 combined times count towards placings.
NO MIXED DISCIPINES – EITHER SKI OR SNOWBOARD TEAMS ONLY.
