Bus Lane - No Access to Any Cars There is to be no access from the Ironside Drive Pick Up area through the bus lane, as having too many options around access to this area is causing confusion and a few issues. The barrier arm has not been lowered since Term 1, to allow drop offs directly to the gate for our newer juniors over Covid. But we have had a few traffic issues, near misses and health and safety risks, so the barrier arm is now put into place again. The barrier arm will be in place at the Ironside Drive end and the entry to the bus lane at the Koru Way end has a WRONG WAY sign. Pretty simple to follow. There is no access pathway through the bus lane for cars, just as we had pre-Covid. Please do not drive cross country across the grassed area, parallel to the bus lane, as we have seen happen lately, as this is a health and safety issue too and is not permitted. There are 8 buses parked in the bus lane before and after school picking up and dropping off our precious children. There is no room for cars trying to sneak by. Let's keep eveyone safe. For access to the junior end of the school, use the carpark entry off Totara Terrace. For access to the hall end of the school, please use the Ironside Drive drop off points. Let's hope Spring and Summer see more children walking, scootering or cycling to school, or children being dropped off at spots down at Kelly's Flat, Totara Terrace or Kings Drive to reduce the congestion around our school entry points and to get kids active. Some other school expectations we have, not mentioned for a while, so you might not know about them... Mobile Phones Are Not Permitted at School Please do not allow your children to bring mobile phones to school. Children can ring their parents if needed from the school office and you can ring, text or email the school with any messages for your child too. The school will take no responsibility for any mobile phones brought to school and may confiscate a phone if seen in use at school. No Dogs at School Please Wānaka Primary School has had a 'no dogs in the school grounds' policy for over 10 years. We haven't reminded you of this for a while. Sorry, your dogs cannot even come into the gates on a lead whilst children are here. If your child is bringing a puppy or dog to school for show and tell etc. then permission must be gained from the principal or through the child's teacher. No dogs are to be brought into school during events such as assemblies, sports days, gala events, school meetings, etc. Please leave your dog at home rather than tying them up at a gate at the school, as this is not fair on your dog and also an issue for children and other adults as they walk past. Thanks for your consideration with this. Illness Status at School We are still seeing a lot of illness around school and we seem to be sending unwell children home each day as they feel ill halfway through the day. We appreciate that you have not been sending your children to school if they are unwell in any way, so thank you. Last week we had 85 students report in as unwell over the week. This is still a large number who are sick, but this is over a week. At the end of term 2 we had over 100 children absent each day! So things are improving, even from week 1 of this term. Today we had 19 children absent due to feeling unwell. We also had 6 reported as absent with Covid (who were isolating last week). Whereas the usual length of absence from illness was often 5 to 10 days last term, now it is between 2 and 3 days. So this hopefully is a positive change happening and we hope this continues as the Spring approaches. The Board will continually review our mask wearing, distancing and hygiene strategies as the conditions start to improve. Parents Welcome into the Gates at 3pm We notice that there are still parents gathering at the gates to greet their children as they exit school at 3pm. Parents are more than welcome to come into the school grounds to meet their children. Masks are only required at this stage if you are heading inside the pods. It is so nice to be able to welcome you back, so don't hesitate at the gates...come on in! Our Ski and School Based EOTC Programme Starts This Thursday Please go to our school website or app to check for postponements. If the ski days are postponed, then so is the school based programme and everyone is expected to be at school, in uniform, for school as normal. Please remember to contact the school office if your child is unwell and will not be at attending school or the ski programme. All children involved in the EOTC programme at school are to gather outside the hall no later than 8.55am, after putting their bags on the hooks outside their usual pod, upon arrival to school. We will be starting our day all together with Jump Jam, before breaking up into groups and heading off in different directions to different activities. Children do not need to wear their uniform. Please send children dressed in sensible clothes and footwear for outdoor and indoor activites where they may get a bit dirty, or exposed to the weather. A warm/rain jacket is advisable for working outdoors in the Garden to Table area and the physical, science and art activities. All children will need their lunch and morning tea as usual with their water bottle as well, of course. Parent Survey Responses - Part Two Parent Survey responses, two of the short answer questions can be found here. Next week's newsletter will include the longer answer responses from questions around other comments you have made, student engagement and the areas parents feel we could improve if faced with another Covid event or similar. Teacher Only Day - Monday 28th November Please note that our Teacher Only Day has been changed from Friday 11th November to Monday 28th November. |

School-Based Programme All children who are going to be part of the amazing school-based programme are to drop their bags in their cloak bays (normal locations) and head over to the hall for 8:55am. All children are going to start the morning with a Jump Jam routine and then each week rotate around the activities the teachers have organised. This year we have Environmental Arts, Special Projects (Garden to Table and Enviroschools), Science activities, Technology learning, and finally Outdoor Pursuits. Pod 1 will not be involved in the rotation and will stay in Pod 1 with Sharon and Charlotte. 5-day Snow Sports Programme - Cardrona and Treble Cone The weather and snow conditions are looking very favourable for Thursday 11th August 2022, our first ski day. If you are late to lessons you are holding up the rest of the group. The instructors are told to get away on time, so please if you have information to pass onto the instructor – BE EARLY. 7. Have you checked you have all the GEAR you need? 8. SUPERVISING PARENT PASSES - Only email if you want to add an adult. I have already added each child's parents, mum and dad.
